Life Lately…

Life has been busy lately.

We’re in the final weeks of building our new house. Everything’s coming along nicely, and we definitely wouldn’t be as close to finished as we are without the help of Baker’s parents. They are constantly painting, building, and cleaning up over there.

These pictures are a week old. The floors are in every room except the office. Our exterior doors are being professionally painted at a local body shop and should be put back on Monday. I can’t wait to see how they turned out. We still need trim and interior doors to be hung, and that should happen on Wednesday. We have a back deck but no downstairs patio yet. That should happen this week or next. Our cabinets are almost finished being installed and the granite man will come measure this week. We’re still waiting on gas to be hooked up, and we don’t have toilets or faucets installed yet, but both of those things are going to happen this week or next. We’re looking at a move in date around October 12th. I guess we might be able to move in earlier, but we’re actually going to Florida on the 4th through the 11th.

Bowen and I have been spending lots of time walking and visiting the park. The temperature has been a little cooler the past few days, and we’ve been taking advantage. He loves to watch the big kids play basketball.

IMG_0758

I found the little critter below on the steps yesterday.

IMG_0768

I can’t believe how many of these things I’ve seen in the past week. I’ve always thought these lizard-like creatures lived in more tropical climates. I thought Kentucky was the midwest.

That smile on his face is deceiving. Bowen has been teething, which is no fun at all. I didn’t think there were anymore teeth he could get, but I guess there was one more 2 year molar. This has made for some seriously sleepless nights – I’m talking less than 4 hours three nights in a row.

Enter the iPad. I LOVE that thing. Bowen has been playing on it in the wee hours of the morning, which lets me sleep a little more. He’s been watching Yo Gabba Gabba on the iPad. I know too much screen time is not a good thing, but at 3:00 am when I am exhausted and he is inconsolable, I welcome videos with open arms.

He’s become quite obsessed with the music and dancing. So yesterday while we were running a few errands getting ready for Florida, we saw a beanie baby of Muno. We had to purchase it, and Bowen hasn’t put it down since.

Yo Gabba Gabba!

And since it’s Sunday – Who Dey!

Sesame Street Live

Last Sunday, Baker and I took Bowen to Sesame Street Live at the Ford Center in Evansville.

IMG_0717

He’s not a huge Sesame Street fan, but he loves to dance and sing. In fact, we’re both upset So You Think You Can Dance is over since it was our favorite.

IMG_0729

We got there a little early, had a little snack, and sat down to enjoy our show. Bowen loved the lights, music, and dancing. He did not love the huge hairy costumes that kept coming so close to us.

Our tickets were way better than I remember buying – front row of the bleacher-like seats. After the third character came to visit, Bowen got over it and wouldn’t scream bloody murder. He also wasn’t going to reach out and touch any of them.

It was a great experience, and I can’t wait to take him to something else like it. I think Baker even had fun too.

22 Months Old

We are quickly approaching two. I can’t believe how fast time is going.

IMG_0810

Height: Not sure, my best guess is 33 or 34 inches

Weight: He’s getting heavier, around 24 pounds
IMG_0814

Clothes: mostly 12-18 month shorts, 18-24 month/2T shirts, size 6 shoes

Language: He loves to talk, mostly about bulls, farms, silos, and the dogs, but he loves to talk. He still babbles quite a bit, but he uses words I can understand inside all of the babbling. He uses some short phrase, like Where’s _________? I want ___________.

Behavior: We are totally in the terrible twos. Bowen can throw a fit like I’ve never seen before. I’m pretty sure a lot of it has to do with his inability to communicate how he feels, so we’re working on understanding emotions. He can say when he’s happy, so I’m hoping he’ll soon tell us when he’s mad or sad.

He likes to do the body melt, where it’s like they have no bones in their body. He also likes to grab our faces and act like he’s going to bite us. We’re trying the time out approach, but it’s not really working very well yet. Redirection works well, but I sometimes feel like I’m letting him off too easy when I simply say No, be nice to Mommy and then redirect him to something else.

IMG_0707

Likes: Carousels, snuggling, grandparents, animals, being outside, talking about bulls, snuggling, reading books, iPads, phones, apples (which are both apples and peaches), riding the Gator

IMG_0712

Dislikes: going to the babysitters in the morning, leaving the babysitters house in the afternoon, sitting in the stroller, being told no

On to the next month.

Our New Home

We are about a month away from being in our new home.

IMG_0847

We’re still in need of hardwood floors, doors and trim to be put up, concrete poured, lights, bricking to be finished, and a million other things, but it’s starting to come together.

IMG_0849

IMG_0857

It looks so boring right now, but our front door will be painted, we have shutters going up, our garage door will be decorative, and landscaping can change the look so much.

I cannot wait to move in!

Bowen’s First Trip to King’s Island

Sorry for the lack of posting. Can you tell school started? Life has been busy.

Bowen made his first trip to King’s Island over the weekend.

IMG_0721

I spent so many summer days in my childhood running around this amusement park and having a blast. Based on Bowen’s reaction to the rides, people, and food, he will too.

He could not get enough of the carousel. We rode both carousels, numerous times.

IMG_0774

IMG_0785

There were five or so rides he could ride, and we rode them all.

He even waited in line over 45 minutes with his Papaw to ride the helicopters.

Bowen had a blast, and Nana and I even snuck off to ride The Beast when he took a nap in the stroller.

We can’t wait to go back next summer!
